The optic nerve is the means by which the eye and brain communicate. Illnesses or medical conditions that affect the eye-brain connection are treated by neuro-ophthalmologists, who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the nerves and muscles in and around the eye. Neuro-ophthalmologists also treat the ocular manifestations of glandular conditions, such as thyroid eye disease (Graves' eye disease) or autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS).

The Wills Eye Neuro-Ophthalmology Service is staffed by experienced, skill neuro-ophthalmologists who will work with your referring physician to manage your condition or illness. The Service incorporates a variety of diagnostic studies to thoroughly evaluate your condition, including vascular studies, CT, MRI, color Doppler flow imaging, fluorescein angiography, among others.

In addition to the conditions listed above, the neuro-ophthalmologists at Wills Eye also treat optic neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, and the ocular disorders that may occur with brain tumors, AIDS and stroke.
