Biography

Dr. Mark S. Pyfer was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia before attending the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in Biology/Neuroscience and a minor in Italian. While an undergraduate, he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then attended medical school at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He served his internship at Pennsylvania Hospital before completing his residency at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Pyfer was selected to serve as Co-Chief resident during his final year at Wills.

Upon completion of his residency training, Dr. Pyfer joined Northern Ophthalmic Associates in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He has a passion for teaching and mentorship in medical education. He currently serves on the staff at Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Abington Hospital. He has also published numerous peer-reviewed research articles in basic neuroscience, neurosurgery, and ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Medical Association, and Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Clinically, Dr. Pyfer combines cutting-edge medical knowledge with a compassionate, patient-centered approach. He provides comprehensive ophthalmic care, with a speciality in advanced cataract surgery, anterior segment surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and refractive eye surgery including LASIK, PRK, and ICL.
