Michael J. Pro, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and an attending physician in Glaucoma at Wills Eye Hospital and an Assistant Professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. His expertise includes all types of glaucoma treatment and surgeries, including state of the art “bleb-less” and minimally invasive surgeries such as ECP and iStent, which are frequently combined with cataract surgery.
Dr. Pro completed a post-baccalaureate pre-med program at Penn State Brandywine and graduated from MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel College of Medicine) in 2001. He completed his medical internship at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ and his Ophthalmology Residency at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary where he was Chief Resident. He then stayed at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary for a one year Glaucoma Fellowship.
Dr. Pro is a frequent lecturer regionally and nationally and is a member of several medical associations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He is a past President of the Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society.
He has published studies in numerous peer-reviewed journals and co-authored a book chapter on glaucoma genetics. He is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Glaucoma and Graefe’s Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.
Dr. Pro is a frequent guest doctor in an on-line chat group for patients with Glaucoma at willsglaucoma.org. His research interests include novel glaucoma surgical techniques and devices.
