Ophthalmic Pathology

Clinical and Research Fellowship

Wills Eye Hospital Pathology Laboratory offers a one- or two-year fellowship for ophthalmologists or pathologists. The fellowship is designed to provide an advanced level of competence in processing and interpretation of eye pathology specimens. This fellowship includes hands-on and cutting-edge experience with gross dissection, microscopic evaluation, and ancillary study interpretation of the entire spectrum of ocular and ocular adnexal diseases.

Pathology Fellowship: How to Apply

Eligibility

  • All applicants must be eligible for a full medical license per the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. International medical graduates must also be eligible for an H1B visa (eligibility includes passing all three steps of the USMLE and reporting results to Wills Eye Hospital prior to the USF Match deadline). The applicants must have advanced prior training in ophthalmology or pathology (completion of ophthalmology or anatomic pathology residency). The applicants are selected based on their academic career objectives, on whether an institutional position as an eye pathologist is available in advance, letters of recommendation, prior publications, and interest in research.

Compensation

  • Compensation is commensurate with other clinical fellowships offered at Wills Eye Hospital.

How to apply

  • This full-time fellowship in ophthalmic pathology is offered to exceptional pre-residency applicants who demonstrate commitment to pursuing a residency in ophthalmology or anatomic pathology. The applicants are selected based on their medical school transcript, USMLE scores, any ECFMG certificates if applicable, letters of recommendation, strong interest in research and prior publications.

Compensation

  • Compensation ranges from $20,000 to $40.000.
